Do you remember a red roofed school A handful of shell for your sums? They gave you a Mickey Mouse gas mask And a pack of American gum. Do you recall when your dad was on leave, Dancing around like Astair? They dressed you up like ShirlyTemple With a big ribbon bow in your hair. At night sleeping under the table While bombers droned over your heads, And granny said "Won't it be lovely, when we can sleep safe in our beds", One day they said " The War's over!" Grannie sang of the Alley and 'Sal'. When Vera sang 'White Cliffs of Dover' And the bells rang 'for me and my gal'.

SKIPPING SONGS
1.
Underneath the churchyard 6ft deep,
There lies Hitler Fast asleep,
All the little mice come and tickle his feet,
Neath the churchyard 6ft deep,
2.
Who that knocking at the window,
Who that knocking at the door,
If it’s Hitler, let him in,
And we’ll sit him on a pin,
And we won’t see old Hitler anymore

Original 1940s Party Games.
BALLOON GAME
Pick two sides.Stretch a piece of string between two chairs about two or three feet from the ground. Now each side must kneel opposite each other on either side of the string. The referee drops a balloon over the string and the game starts. The players have to hit the balloon with the back of the hand, never leaving their places. The object is, of course, not to let the balloon fall on the floor on your own side of the string. If this happens it scores a point to the other side. Before starting it should be decided for how many points the game is to be played, and the side who first gains this number are, of course, the winners.
The Snake’s Tail
The children line up according to size, the tallest heading the line, and the smallest bringing up the rear. Each child grasps the belt of the child in front of him, and thus the snake” is formed. The largest child tries to catch the smallest child, which the others try to prevent by twisting and turning and keeping in a way of the snake head. On no account must they let go of the child in front, for if they do they have to drop out of the snake “body” and then must look on. This is lots of fun and the children have a great time dashing about trying to keep the snake from catching its own tail.
